Local Columbus, OH law firm seeking Full-Time Associate in the Investment Fraud Practice Group
TalentRooster has been engaged to assist in finding an attorney for our client's growing law practice. If you or anyone you know might be interested in speaking further, please have them register and create a video interview via the link on this page. Thank you.
Our client is Ohio's only law firm dedicated solely to individual investor claims and class actions. They are a 100% contingency-fee firm (no defense work; no hourly work). The firm does no personal injury work.
The investment fraud practice group has successfully represented more than 800 individual investors in claims against brokerage firms and other financial service companies. The majority of disputes between customers and their brokerage firms are handled through mandatory arbitration administered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). The firm's other investment fraud cases are pursued through state or federal court litigation.
Job Position: Lateral Hire - Full-Time Associate in the Investment Fraud practice group.
Job Description: This firm is an AV-rated boutique law firm with a well-established niche of representing investors in Ohio and throughout the country with claims against their financial advisors. They are seeking a true "trial attorney" with at least 7-10 years of trial and civil litigation experience to handle a heavy case load of investment misconduct arbitration and litigation cases. This position reports directly to the principal of the firm. The current attorney that holds this position with the firm is making a career change. Everyone at the firm is aware of this search.
The successful candidate will have significant first-chair civil trial/arbitration experience (plaintiff or defendant), will have conducted and defended many depositions and must be accustomed to managing their own case load (including frequent contact and interaction with clients, opposing counsel, witnesses and tribunals). Candidates must have solid computer skills, be extremely organized, and thrive in an active and busy work environment.
Prior experience representing Claimants (investors) in FINRA arbitration cases would be ideal. Second best would be experience defending brokers (attorneys who may want to switch sides and represent the Claimants). Given the highly specialized nature of this practice area, prior experience in FINRA arbitrations isn't absolutely necessary (but a huge plus).
It is not necessary that candidates have a "book of business" or be able to generate new cases immediately. They will be working on pending cases at the firm and the firm generates a significant number of cases through its reputation and the efforts of the principal. Of course, the ability to generate cases is a plus.
Some travel will be required (throughout Ohio and, although less frequently, throughout the country).
Compensation will include a very competitive base salary and bonuses based on the performance of the attorney and the firm. Given the contingency nature of the fees earned by the firm, this is not a position where the salary is set and constant.
Health plan, 401(k), profit-sharing also provided.
